PALEO-HUMMUS-RECIPEThe last 50 years have seen an explosive increase in the number and types of available “diet plans”. Concurrently, there has also been an increase of epic proportions in obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, and vascular disease.  With all the advances in modern medicine, science, farming, and food technology, shouldn’t we be getting healthier?  It seems that the more new “diet plans” that show up, the unhealthier we get. If any one of these diets was actually effective, then why are there so many others from which to choose?  These diets all have one thing in common that prevents them from working: nearly all modern diet plans are, in some way, trying to outsmart Mother Nature by allowing, or even promoting, a continued disconnect between humans and our genetic blueprint.

At Revita, we believe that the secret to optimal nutrition is really no secret at all.  It simply requires going back to our roots; reconnecting with, rather than trying to outsmart, Mother Nature and subscribing to the “Paleolithic template” of our ancestors. This lifestyle focused on the natural foods that were available before the introduction of agriculture and the technologies used to process food. It emphasized foods that are nutrient-rich and calorie-poor, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and meats, along with healthy fats. It limited foods that are calorie-rich but nutrient-poor, such as refined grains and processed foods.

The Revita Anti-Aging Modified Medical Paleo Lifestyle, or MD Paleo,TM is a healthier way of eating that will help you obtain your optimal weight, while increasing energy, performance, immunity, and mental clarity. Unlike today’s carbohydrate-laden diet, which leaves us constantly infusing some form of sugar for energy, the MD Paleo diet will reestablish the use of fat as your bodies primary fuel source.  You will become less hungry, more easily satisfied, require less food, and maintain an even energy level throughout the day.

What is the Medical Modified Perspective (MD PaleoTM)?

paleoThe MD Paleo diet uses only those foods which are most beneficial for health and which have been scientifically shown to have little negative effects on our bodies. Unfortunately, the availability of the healthy food choices of our Paleolithic ancestors has been dwarfed by a never-ending supply of easily accessible and nutritionally inferior items (some of which barely resemble real food). Optimal nutrition is a challenging process. It does not happen overnight.  Behavior modification, resisting social pressures, and re-training your habits and taste buds requires time and discipline.  At Revita Anti-Aging, we acknowledge this dilemma and will work with you individually to customize a plan that takes into consideration your lifestyle, habits, and other concerns.

Optimal nutrition is a challenging process. Our MD PaleoTM diet focuses on two key factors that a pure Paleo diet does not: one from a scientific medical perspective and the other from a real world perspective.

From a scientific medical perspective, our doctors understand what food does when it is in your body.  In general, the foods of our ancestors have positive medical benefits.  Conversely, there are “non-Paleo” foods that also have proven health benefits.  There is no “perfect food”.  Each has its own positive and negative attributes, and all foods need to be consumed in moderation. Furthermore, no two individuals respond identically to the same food.   Certain foods, like shellfish, can cause life-threatening allergic reactions while others, such as grains, can result in low-grade paleo2inflammation which, over time may contribute to chronic diseases such as leaky gut, stroke, and dementia. This is where Revita’s doctors and modern science come in to play.  Through history and elaborate blood testing, we can identify the specific foods that are most problematic for each patient and develop a customized nutrition plan for you that is centered on Paleo guidelines, but prioritized for your body and your goals.

Some Paleo foods (almonds, for example) have negative side effects in your body.  This does not mean you should not eat almonds, it just means you need to limit almonds and make them a part of a balanced diet.  Also, many non-Paleo foods in moderation have few negative side effects in your body and have little to no effect if your goal is to lose weight.

From a real-world perspective, we know that the most important part of any lifestyle change is sustainability, and the immediate commitment to a purely Paleolithic diet may be too great for some. Some of the choices for a pure Paleo lifestyle are not readily available for busy, active patients.   Although the benefits are related to the degree of compliance, we do not consider this an all or nothing, pass or fail diet.  Instead, we consider it “a process” that may take months, if not years, to refine.  We work with patients to gain an understanding of their goals and objectives.  We guide them through the incremental stages from donuts to wild-caught salmon, and from pizza to kale.
